Vorarlberg outdoor pools begin closing after record-hot summer

Several outdoor pools in Vorarlberg have already closed after an exceptionally hot summer, while others will end their season this weekend, ORF reports. Most will remain open until mid-September, with a few continuing until the end of the month.

Summer 2026 was Austria’s hottest since temperature records began. Vorarlberg also saw several records broken. Bludenz recorded 37.3 degrees Celsius at the end of June, the highest temperature ever measured there in that month, while Bregenz registered more hot days than ever before. The heat brought particularly high visitor numbers to the region’s outdoor pools at the start of the season.

Several pools close this weekend

The season has already ended at the outdoor pools in Bezau, Braz, Partenen and Dalaas. The Waldbad Enz forest pool in Dornbirn, Alpenbad Montafon in Tschagguns, Rätikonbad in Vandans, Mountain Beach in Gaschurn, and the outdoor pools in Au and Riezlern are scheduled to close on September 6.

The Waldbad Schoppernau forest pool is scheduled to close on September 7, followed by the outdoor pool in Schwarzenberg on September 9.

On September 13, the season is scheduled to end at Frutzau in Sulz, Bad Mellau, the family pool in Hittisau, the outdoor pool in Egg, Waldbad Gisingen, Felsenau in Frastanz, In der Riebe in Götzis, Rheinauen in Hohenems, Strandbad Hard, Parkbad Lustenau, Strandbad Lochau, Strandbad Bregenz, Aquarena in St. Gallenkirch and Val Blu in Bludenz.

Mili Bregenz is scheduled to remain open until September 20, Walgaubad Nenzing until September 27 and Alvierbad Brand until September 30. The pools in Klösterle, Lech and Untere Au in Frastanz plan to continue operating until around mid-September if the weather remains suitable.

At pools whose opening hours depend on the weather, actual closing dates may change at short notice.
