Legionella case reported in Amstetten district

ORF reported that a Legionella infection has been confirmed in the Amstetten district. According to a report by NÖN, the patient is a woman living in an assisted living facility and is being treated at Amstetten State Hospital.

The district administrative authority confirmed the case but gave no further details. District Governor Martina Gerersdorfer said in a written statement that the necessary inquiries and investigations had been launched to establish the illness and identify the source of infection. The authority said it could not provide information about the patient.

An outbreak of Legionella infections in the greater Linz area had resulted in 32 cases by the end of the previous week. Three patients had died.

Lower Austria has recorded 38 Legionella infections so far this year, according to the provincial authorities. There were 74 cases in 2025 and 63 in 2024. Across Austria, 419 cases were reported last year, according to data from the Agency for Health and Food Safety.
