LKA suspects attack attempt near Rohde and Schwarz headquarters

Bavaria’s State Criminal Police Office suspects an attempted attack with incendiary devices against a defence-sector company after a fire attack on a construction site in Munich, BR reported. The LKA said it was investigating a possible political motive but did not name the company.

Shortly before midnight, incendiary devices were thrown from a car at a construction site in front of the headquarters of technology group Rohde and Schwarz. One device ignited near construction containers, but a police patrol quickly extinguished it. Only minor damage was reported and no one was injured.

A witness alerted police after seeing the devices thrown in Munich’s Berg am Laim district. Officers later found another device at the scene that had not ignited. Specialists from the LKA rendered it safe, and the area was extensively cordoned off.

During an immediate search, police arrested two suspects at a nearby petrol station on Innsbrucker Ring. They are a 28-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, both Bulgarian nationals. Investigators are examining their possible connection to the incident. There is no information so far about a possible motive or the background to the attack.

Rohde and Schwarz confirmed the police and fire service operation but said its own premises were not affected. The company, which works in security technology and communications for authorities and the military, declined to comment further for now.

In 2021, unidentified people set fire to a power cable near Rohde and Schwarz that had been exposed in a construction trench. An online statement claimed the action was an attack on the defence company. That incident remains unsolved. The sabotage caused a power cut affecting 20,000 households in eastern Munich, while the company said it was not affected.
