Tyrol funds reseeding of drought damaged meadows

Tyrol is providing 300,000 euros to help farms restore drought damaged meadows and pastures and make them more resilient, broadcaster ORF reported.
Prolonged heat and drought have damaged grass cover across the province. Where the sward becomes thin and gaps appear, yields and feed quality decline, the Tyrol government said.
The funding supports reseeding with quality seed suited to local conditions. A dense sward is the basis for producing high quality forage and securing feed supplies, the government said.
Josef Geisler, Tyrol’s deputy governor, described the scheme as an investment in feed quality, stable yields and the future of grassland farming.
The measure builds on the Climate Ready Grassland programme, under which drought resistant grassland plants were sown in 2020.
Applications must be submitted through Maschinenring. Applications are open until September 30, 2026, and eligible measures carried out since August 1 can already be included.
Geisler said he would seek to offer the programme again next year if demand is sufficient, citing climate protection and security of supply.
