Man allegedly lures 76-year-old to underpass and steals bag

ORF reported that an unknown man allegedly stole a 76-year-old woman’s handbag after accompanying her to a nearby underpass in Graz-Liebenau on Tuesday afternoon.

The woman had travelled by tram to a shopping centre at about 2 p.m. The man reportedly helped her get off the tram and accompanied her to a pharmacy.

After she left the shopping centre, he allegedly approached her again and said he would take her back to the tram stop. Instead, he is believed to have led her to an underpass and taken her handbag, which contained a large amount of cash.

The woman called for help, and a passer-by who heard her contacted police. An immediate search failed to find the suspect. Graz’s criminal investigations department is investigating.
