Hellweg seeks court closure of final four Austrian stores

Hellweg has applied to close its last four Austrian stores through court proceedings, ORF reported on Monday. The application was filed at the Linz Regional Court and affects 116 employees.

The stores include the DIY outlet in Straßwalchen in the Flachgau region, as well as branches in Ried im Innkreis and Kirchdorf an der Krems in Upper Austria and Graz-Eggenberg in Styria.

The stated aim is an orderly handover to an investor. The four locations are to continue operating with their own stock, with employees retained. The market management and fire protection departments are excluded from the closures to ensure the stores remain secure during the disposal process.

Closure applications for Hellweg’s two other Styrian stores, in Graz-Raaba and Fürstenfeld, were filed on August 12 after a prospective buyer saw no possibility of continuing their operations. The stock at those two locations is due to be auctioned from September 7.

Hellweg’s Austrian subsidiary entered restructuring proceedings under self-administration at the Linz Regional Court on June 30, 2026. The German parent company had filed for insolvency on June 16. According to credit protection agencies, the Austrian business had debts of 23.88 million euros to about 280 creditors and offered the statutory minimum quota of 30 percent. At the start of the proceedings, Hellweg had six stores and 165 employees in Austria.
