Motorcyclist dies in creek crash; second rider revived

A 67-year-old woman died after her motorcycle left the road and plunged into a creek in Dörfla, in the Southeast Styria district, on Friday, ORF reported. A second motorcyclist was seriously injured in a separate crash the same day and had to be resuscitated.

The woman was turning left from the L202 into Breitenbuchenweg when she veered off the road to the right for an undetermined reason. She hit a town sign before falling into the Köllybach.

Her husband, who was riding behind her on another motorcycle, and a first responder pulled her from the creek and immediately began resuscitation efforts. She died at the scene from her severe injuries. A crisis intervention team supported her relatives.

In St. Georgen an der Stiefing, in the Leibnitz district, a 31-year-old man crashed on the L626 near Gebersdorf. He was apparently travelling too fast, went onto the road shoulder and seemingly lost control of his motorcycle.

The motorcycle overturned, and the rider hit several roadside marker posts and a fence before coming to rest on the adjacent embankment.

The man’s companions provided first aid and alerted emergency services. An emergency doctor who happened to be nearby and the crew of a rescue helicopter resuscitated him. He was flown to the Graz hospital with life-threatening injuries.
