Tyrolean man takes out loan to pay online scammers

A 48-year-old man from Imst lost a low five-figure sum to online scammers after taking out a loan to transfer money to them, ORF reported.

The man was contacted through a messaging service in August and was told he had a mid-five-figure sum in a cryptocurrency wallet. The scammers claimed he would need to invest a five-figure amount to access it.

He followed their instructions, police said. When the promised money still had not arrived, he became suspicious and filed a report.
