Officials open exhibition on Linz’s contested A26 motorway
Representatives of ASFINAG, Upper Austria and the city of Linz have opened an exhibition about the A26 motorway project, which has faced protests and criticism over rising construction costs. ORF reported that the exhibition is intended to answer residents’ questions.
The exhibition opened at Linz’s Bergschlössl. ASFINAG construction director Andreas Fromm said the project would have a significant impact on Linz and the region, and that the exhibition aimed to provide information and transparency, including for critics.
Linz deputy mayor Karin Leitner said residents, particularly those living near the route, were concerned about noise and how traffic would continue to flow. She said those concerns had to be taken seriously.
Upper Austria infrastructure councillor Günther Steinkellner said the project could help secure jobs in Linz and the state. He also pointed to the expected relief for the city centre and the Nibelungen Bridge.
Admission is free, but visitors must register in advance to attend a guided tour.
