A possible further case involving tampered Halloween sweets has been reported in Murtal, bringing the number of reports in Styria to five, ORF reports.
Police have now recorded cases in three Styrian districts. Two finds each in Leibnitz and Weiz were reported on Monday; on Wednesday, Federal Criminal Police Office spokesperson Heinz Holub-Friedreich confirmed that tampered sweets had also been found in Murtal.
Similar sweets have been seized in four Austrian states. The Federal Criminal Police Office is coordinating the investigation, with a dedicated team working to link the incidents and identify possible patterns. Investigators are also cooperating internationally.
In one reported case, a mother saw news coverage about the incidents and broke open sweets before giving them to her children. She found metal inside.
