Halloween, police, Salzburg

Police temporarily closed part of Salzburg city centre after firecrackers were set off and thrown during Halloween night, ORF reported. The incidents began around 10 p.m. near Hanuschplatz square.

Police sealed off the area between the square and the Staatsbrücke bridge and stopped several people to check their identities.

Protests announced on social media by the initiative Gen Z regelt did not take place in Salzburg. Although there had been numerous calls for a demonstration, no event had been registered with the authorities.

In Germany, protests were linked to riots in several cities. Demonstrations in more than 30 cities, involving tens of thousands of people, had initially begun peacefully.
