Halloween shoppers in Burgenland are expected to spend around four million euros this year, boosting retailers, ORF reports. A survey found that shoppers spend an average of 50 euros.
Sweets top the shopping list, ahead of costumes and decorations, according to the survey by KMU Forschung Austria. Manfred Moyses, deputy head of the trade division at the Chamber of Commerce, said sweet sales were strong and supermarket shelves were nearly empty.
Demand for Halloween goods has also risen in recent years at a children’s shop in Eisenstadt, employee Laura Jagoschütz said. The shop now sells some Halloween books, many of which pair spooky characters with messages about courage and self-confidence.
