The FPÖ is urging Vienna to publish an updated database of asbestos findings across the city’s road network, including test results, after a party district councillor said he had not received full laboratory reports. ORF reported the demand.

Bernhard Patzer, an FPÖ district councillor in Penzing, reported a suspected asbestos finding in mid-September near the pedestrian crossing at Hütteldorfer Straße and Zehetnergasse. A few weeks later, the responsible city department, MA 28, confirmed a slight exceedance of the assessment criteria, Patzer said. He said he had not received the full laboratory reports.

Vienna FPÖ environmental spokesperson and state party secretary Michael Stumpf said the city should provide residents with comprehensive and transparent information about known asbestos contamination in its roads. The party wants a publicly accessible, regularly updated database listing all known suspected areas, test results, and measures already taken or planned.

The FPÖ also plans to question the Vienna Environmental Ombudsman’s Office to seek an independent review of the measures.

The Vienna Greens have also called for an asbestos database. Their motion in the state parliament on October 20 was rejected by votes from the SPÖ and NEOS.
