Experts investigate fresh sheep kills after wolf DNA finding

Experts are investigating the deaths of two sheep in Embach near Lend in Salzburg’s Pinzgau region after new tracks pointed to a possible wolf attack, ORF reported. Four other sheep are still missing.

Experts examined the two dead animals on Thursday and collected DNA samples to identify the predator. The results have not yet been released.

In a separate case in Unken, also in the Pinzgau, DNA analysis confirmed that a wolf from the Dinaric population was responsible for a livestock attack.

Investigators are now checking whether that wolf may also have killed livestock about 10 kilometres away in early September. A possible link between the cases has not been confirmed.
