A driver was injured when a loose tyre crossed the median on the A1 West Autobahn and struck an oncoming car, ORF reported.
Police said a 52-year-old man from Lower Austria was driving towards Vienna on Thursday evening when his car lost a tyre shortly after the Melk junction. The tyre reportedly flew over the concrete barrier and hit the other vehicle near its A-pillar, smashing the windscreen.
The 53-year-old driver of the struck car, who is from Salzburg, was able to drive to a parking area before being taken to hospital with injuries of undetermined severity. Police said he was conscious. The driver whose car lost the tyre stopped and was uninjured.
