The Heutal ski lifts near Unken have entered insolvency proceedings, with the operator seeking restructuring, ORF reports. The company’s liabilities total just over one million euros, and 37 creditors are affected, according to credit and creditor-protection associations.

The Heutal-Lift GmbH currently has no employees apart from its managing director. It is offering creditors a repayment quota of 20 percent and wants to continue operating.

The ski area has one long drag lift, two shorter drag lifts and a practice lift. It is popular with day visitors and families with children. From spring to autumn, the company also manages parking for ski tourers, cross-country skiers and hikers.

The company cites last winter’s lack of snow and the resulting fall in skier numbers as reasons for its financial difficulties. It also points to low use during the summer months, rising costs and legacy liabilities. Its snowmaking facilities are not yet fully operational, further worsening the effects of snow-poor winters.

The managing director said in the spring that the lifts would not operate in the 2026/27 winter season, citing a comprehensive economic and structural overhaul. But KSV1870 said Thursday that reopening could make sense and be economically viable if snow conditions are good.
