The Graz99ers will play their November 21 home game against the Pioneers Vorarlberg in Kapfenberg, protesting the end of the city’s sponsorship, ORF reported.
The City of Graz is ending its sponsorship of the hockey club and football teams SK Sturm and GAK at the end of the year. The funding is due to stop in January.
The 99ers previously removed the word “Graz” from their logo for one weekend as a protest. The club said the Kapfenberg move would initially apply to just one game.
Negotiations had reportedly been under way for some time. Kapfenberg city authorities and the ICE Hockey League have approved the plan. The Kapfenberg arena is certified by the International Ice Hockey Federation.
