Car overturns near Schlossalm, injuring driver

A driver was lightly injured when his car went off the road and overturned near Schlossalm in Bad Hofgastein on Thursday afternoon, ORF reported. The man, who is about 60, was flown to hospital by helicopter.

The crash happened near a reservoir pond in the Brandbichl area. The Bad Hofgastein mountain rescue service was alerted by the car’s automatic eCall system. When its advance team arrived, the driver had already been treated aboard the Alpin Heli 6 rescue helicopter.

“He was very lucky,” said Roman Brandstetter, head of the Bad Hofgastein mountain rescue operation. “The crash could have ended much worse.”

Fifteen mountain rescue members responded, alongside the Bad Hofgastein volunteer fire brigade, police and the helicopter crew. The operation ended at about 6 p.m.
