Two people were injured when their car left the road in dense fog and plunged about 100 metres down steep terrain in Navis, in the Innsbruck-Land district, on Wednesday evening, ORF reported.
The car came to a stop in a watercourse, police said. A 73-year-old local man was driving, with his 70-year-old wife in the passenger seat. She was trapped in the vehicle and freed by volunteer firefighters.
Police said both occupants had injuries of unspecified severity and were taken to Innsbruck hospital for treatment. The Red Cross said one person was seriously injured and the other sustained minor injuries.
Extremely dense fog and wet conditions made visibility and work at the crash site difficult for emergency crews, the Red Cross in Innsbruck-Land said. The car was substantially damaged and recovered by a towing company.
