WSG beat Wacker on penalties to reach Austrian Cup quarter-finals

WSG advanced to the Austrian Cup quarter-finals after beating Wacker Innsbruck in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw, ORF reported. The Tirol derby was played in front of a sold-out crowd of about 16,000 at the Tivoli stadium.

WSG took an early lead through Husein Balic in the fifth minute. Wacker, a second-division side, equalised through Luis Gstrein in the 16th minute and pushed the tie into extra time.

Thomas Sabitzer put WSG ahead in the 110th minute, but Gabriele Biancheri equalised six minutes later. WSG goalkeeper Salko Hamzic then saved three penalties in the shootout. Wacker’s Bright Owusu hit the woodwork with his attempt.
