Personal data belonging to users of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation’s digital portal was stolen in a cyberattack and offered for sale online, SRF reported.

An unauthorised person used a platform user’s login details to access the data between October 17 and 19, the federation said in a notice to people who may have been affected. The federation discovered on Monday that information from MYSIHF, its central digital portal for administration and match operations, was being offered for sale on an internet forum.

The exposed information may include names, dates of birth, postal and email addresses, telephone numbers, profile pictures, and club and team affiliations. Passwords were not stolen.

The federation blocked the compromised account and fixed the security vulnerability on Monday. It has informed the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner and said it intends to file a criminal complaint.

The federation warned affected people to watch for phishing attempts, particularly by email, text message or phone. It said the stolen data is now circulating online and can no longer be secured.
