Two drivers were injured when a lorry hit a car from behind on the A4 between Mönchhof and Gols in Burgenland, ORF reported.
The crash happened at about 10.30pm on Sunday. Police said an unidentified vehicle overtook a car driven by a 25-year-old Romanian man, forcing him to brake sharply. A 67-year-old lorry driver from Hungary, travelling behind him, could not stop or swerve in time and struck the car.
The impact sent the car onto the hard shoulder. The lorry hit the guardrail and became lodged there, rupturing its oil pan. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to hospital in Eisenstadt. The A4 was closed at the crash scene for about half an hour while fire brigades from Zurndorf, Neusiedl am See and Mönchhof recovered the vehicles.
