Carinthia, commuting, transport

Commuters in Carinthia can apply until October 31 for a state travel-cost subsidy covering journeys made last year, ORF reports. Those who used the Kärnten Ticket, a public transport pass, to travel to work may receive a full or partial refund.

More than 7,800 commuters, apprentices and evening-school students received the subsidy last year, with a total of €1.48 million paid out.

The refund amount depends on income, the number of days worked each week and the distance to work. Applicants must have their main residence in Carinthia, travel at least five kilometres one way and commute at least two days a week. People earning less than €30,000 a year who commute at least 30 kilometres one way on four or more days a week may qualify for a full ticket refund. Kärnten Tickets bought this year can also be submitted for reimbursement.

People who need to drive because public transport is not a reasonable alternative can also apply for support. They must travel at least 30 kilometres one way to work and can receive a one-time €75 fuel bonus. Applications for this support are open until December 31.

The Carinthia Chamber of Labour administers the subsidies.
