Brau-Union will invest more than €20 million in a central distribution hub in Fürnitz for the whole of Carinthia, ORF reports. The facility will replace the company’s existing depots in Villach and Klagenfurt and is scheduled to open at the end of next year.
The company, which includes the Villacher Bier and Schleppe brands, will build the hub on a 36,000-square-metre plot in Fürnitz’s industrial area, behind the freight marshalling yard. The project includes a 9,000-square-metre hall, offices and a loading ramp. Ground preparation and utility connections are complete, and construction is due to begin shortly.
Some 151 employees are expected to work at the facility from the end of next year. Finkenstein Mayor Christian Poglitsch estimates it will generate about €250,000 a year for the municipality, which plans to build a school and a multi-purpose sports hall.
Brau-Union said the site’s proximity to the Fürnitz marshalling yard offers additional options for transporting beer by rail. Villach had also offered plots on the edge of the city for the logistics centre.
