Two people were injured when a car struck a police vehicle at an accident scene on the Pyhrn motorway near Spielfeld on Thursday evening, ORF reported.

The crash happened at about 7 p.m. on the A9, heading towards Slovenia. Police had been called to an earlier collision, where a damaged car was stopped in the second lane.

Officers parked their patrol car behind it with its blue lights on and got out to approach the damaged vehicle. A car driven by a 45-year-old man then hit the rear of the patrol car, pushing it into the first vehicle, police said. The cause of the collision is unclear.

The 45-year-old was taken by the Red Cross to Graz State Hospital. His 16-year-old daughter was flown by rescue helicopter to a children’s hospital. The two officers and the 42-year-old driver of the first car were not injured.
