ATM, crime, Switzerland

Three suspects have been arrested in the Netherlands after an ATM was blown up in Beringen, Switzerland, and Swiss authorities are seeking their extradition, SRF reported. Investigators seized cash they believe came from the machine.

The arrests followed a joint investigation involving the Federal Office of Police, Schaffhausen cantonal police and partner authorities abroad, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland told the Keystone-SDA news agency. The Swiss office said it would submit an extradition request to Dutch judicial authorities. It has not released the suspects’ identities.

The explosion in Beringen early on Monday caused significant damage and set fire to an adjoining residential building. Thirteen residents were evacuated during the night. The suspects had initially fled abroad.

Investigators are also examining whether the Beringen case is linked to an attack on an ATM in Thayngen, also in the canton of Schaffhausen, on September 30. The perpetrators left without taking any money. One was seriously injured in the hand and thigh in the explosion and was arrested at the scene before being taken to hospital. The other two escaped.
