Police cited 531 drivers for speeding during weekend checks in the greater Linz area, ORF reported. A 19-year-old was measured at 165 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the B139 Kremstalstraße, and his licence was provisionally taken away.

The checks were carried out on Saturday and overnight into Sunday by Upper Austria’s State Traffic Department, Linz City Police Command and Linz-Land District Police Command. Police also provisionally seized the 19-year-old’s car.

Two other drivers were cited for drug use and also had their licences provisionally taken away. Police filed a further 61 reports under vehicle, road traffic and driving licence laws.

Officers and Upper Austria state technical experts inspected 12 vehicles at the Linz state inspection centre. Police removed the number plates from 10 cars because of serious technical defects that posed an immediate danger.
