Fridays for Future will hold a climate demonstration in Salzburg on Friday, saying the state and city are unprepared for the effects of climate change, ORF reports. The march also marks the relaunch of the group’s regional chapter after a longer break.
The demonstration is part of a nationwide day of action in Austria. Organisers say they want to call for better thermal insulation, more renewable energy and an end to large fossil-fuel projects. They are also demanding a transport strategy for Salzburg and accuse politicians of inaction on climate protection.
The protest will include the pro-Palestinian organisation Voice for Palestine, whose representative is due to speak. Organisers told ORF that the war machine consumes vast resources and causes irreparable damage, contributing significantly to the climate crisis.
The march starts at 4 p.m. at Salzburg’s main railway station and will pass through Mirabellplatz and across the Staatsbrücke bridge before ending at Residenzplatz. Organisers expect between 500 and 1,000 participants. The last large Fridays for Future demonstration in Salzburg was held in 2024.
