An 85-year-old woman has died after her car collided with an emergency ambulance at an intersection in Graz on Wednesday, ORF reported. Three other people were injured.

The ambulance was travelling with its blue lights and siren on when it entered the intersection on Eggenbergergürtel. Shortly beforehand, the traffic light for cross traffic had turned green, and the woman also set off.

The ambulance crew braked and swerved but still collided with her car. The woman was critically injured and died shortly after being taken to hospital.

The injured were the 31-year-old ambulance driver, her 20-year-old passenger and a passer-by who broke a window of the car to free the woman. All three were taken to UKH Graz hospital for treatment. A civil-service worker travelling in the ambulance was unharmed.

Investigations into the exact circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
