Firefighters spent several hours tackling a smouldering fire in a tire-granulate storage bunker in Ohlsdorf, in the Gmunden district, ORF reported. No one was injured.

The Ohlsdorf volunteer fire brigade was called to the Unterthalham district on Saturday evening after an employee of the recycling company raised the alarm. About 30 firefighters attended the blaze in a covered bunker.

Firefighters used a wheel loader to remove the granulate and spread it across an open area. The material absorbed little water despite the use of three hose lines, so crews deployed a compressed-air foam system, fire brigade commander Michael Moran said.

Crews repeatedly turned over and extinguished the pile to reach hidden embers. Water was supplied from a nearby firefighting-water well. The operation ended on Sunday after several hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
