Dalmatian-like foal sells for €75,000 at Vienna auction
A strikingly spotted foal has sold for €75,000 at an auction in Vienna and was bought by a buyer in Dubai, ORF reported.
The five-month-old colt, named J-Nimon K, has markings that German breeder Steffen Krehl says resemble a Dalmatian, a zebra or even a giraffe. People who see the horse are often astonished, Krehl said, adding that other horses also appeared surprised by its appearance.
The foal’s distinctive colouring comes from its father, Genius, a stallion from the Netherlands whose markings have made him popular with breeders. Krehl said the result was not guaranteed: grey colouring is usually dominant, and attempts to produce a spotted foal with the same sire’s semen have instead resulted in grey or brown offspring.
J-Nimon K will stay with its mother for a few more weeks before being separated from her. It has not yet been decided whether the colt will go directly to its buyer in Dubai or first receive training at a stud farm in Europe. Krehl described it as confident and willing to lead the way.
