Swiss online marketplace Ricardo has reported a data breach affecting about 890,000 user accounts, SRF reported. Names, postal addresses and telephone numbers were accessed, but email addresses and passwords remained protected.
Ricardo’s parent company, SMG Swiss Marketplace Group, said it detected suspicious activity on its servers on October 7 and immediately closed the security vulnerability. Company names of business customers were also affected.
The company said it would contact affected users directly with information about the incident and possible protective measures. It has notified the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner and plans to file a criminal complaint and report the incident to the Federal Office for Cybersecurity.
