More Halloween sweets found with metal objects inside
Further Halloween sweets containing metal objects have been found in Styria, Lower Austria and Upper Austria, ORF reported. Police urged people not to eat any suspicious sweets as investigations continue.
In Styria, the Federal Criminal Police Office confirmed further finds in the Murtal district on Wednesday. A sweet containing metal had already been found in the Leibnitz district on Monday evening. In one of the two newly reported cases, a mother checked the sweets before giving them to her children after seeing reports about the incidents. Styria has now recorded five reports across three districts.
The new cases in Lower Austria were reported in Amstetten and Loosdorf, in the Melk district. Metal objects were found in the sweets, but no one was injured. On Monday, a ten-year-old in Winklarn, in the Amstetten district, suffered a minor injury inside the mouth after biting into a mini chocolate containing a hidden needle.
In Ebelsberg, a district of Linz, a 28-year-old found a screw inside a chocolate bar collected by his children, aged four and eight, on Halloween. After seeing a social media video about the discoveries, he checked the sweets they had brought home. Police have not been able to establish where the bar came from, and no one was injured. Sweets containing nails had also been found in another part of Linz on Monday.
A possible case has also been described in a Facebook post from Vienna’s Donaustadt district. The post says a child found a screw inside a chocolate sweet collected near Pelargonienweg in the Hirschstetten district. The report has not been confirmed.
The Federal Criminal Police Office is leading the investigation, with a team working to link the incidents and identify possible patterns. Investigations are also coordinated internationally. Police advised people to keep suspicious sweets and their packaging, contact the authorities and avoid removing or altering any foreign objects.
