Police arrest suspect in alleged rape of 85-year-old woman

Vienna police arrested a 37-year-old Romanian man on Wednesday night on suspicion of raping an 85-year-old woman, ORF reported. He denies the allegation.

Officers detained him near Vienna Central Station at about 10:30 p.m. after a witness told police she had seen a man matching the search photographs near the station entrance.

The man is accused of forcing the woman into the courtyard of a residential building on Arsensalstraße as she walked home in the early hours of Tuesday and raping her. She screamed for help, and passers-by alerted police. The suspect initially fled, and the woman was taken to hospital.

On the order of the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, the suspect was taken to a detention facility.
