Authorities check multiple bear sightings in Landeck district
Authorities in Tyrol are reviewing several recent bear sightings in the district of Landeck, ORF reported. A bear was photographed by a wildlife camera in an alpine pasture in the municipality of Nauders on Saturday, and another sighting was reported in an alpine pasture in Pfunds.
The bear in Nauders was photographed in the early hours of Saturday. The state of Tyrol said on Tuesday that it was checking all reports and evidence. So far, there has been no indication that a bear is deliberately approaching people or populated areas.
The state urged people to report tracks, sightings or other evidence of large predators promptly, either through its online sighting form or to the relevant district authority. Images are particularly useful for expert assessment, it said.
The bear that killed a pony in Pfunds in early August was identified as the same bear recorded in Tyrol in 2025, according to the state.
