Armed robbers tie up couple in Hartberg-Fürstenfeld home invasion

Two armed, masked men robbed a couple at their home in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district of Styria on Sunday morning, tied them up and fled in the couple’s car, ORF reported.

The couple returned from an event at about 6 a.m. and were confronted as they opened their car doors outside their home. The men forced them at gunpoint to unlock the front door, then tied them up and searched the house.

The robbers took cash, expensive watches, jewellery and mobile phones, as well as the event’s takings from the car. They drove away in the couple’s vehicle, leaving the victims tied up inside.

The woman managed to free herself and stopped a passing motorist on the road, who alerted police. Officers found the getaway car near the scene, but the suspects remain at large.

The couple were physically unharmed but in shock. The Styrian State Criminal Police Office is investigating. Police have withheld the victims’ ages and the municipality to protect their identities. Witnesses can contact the office on 059 133 60 3333.
