The municipality of St. Lamprecht in Styria has been officially recognised as a climatic health resort, a distinction it hopes will attract more tourists and new residents, ORF reported.
Municipalities seeking the status must meet several requirements, including providing clean drinking water and having a pharmacy and a park or promenade. Assessments demonstrating the climate’s health benefits are decisive, said Florian Weihs of the regional health department. These include reports on noise, air quality and bioclimate, based on measurements that can run for a full year. The state and a medical expert then review the findings.
Mayor Fritz Sperl said the municipality hopes to attract visitors who value nature and increase overnight stays, but does not want to become a large-scale tourist destination. He also sees the recognition as an opportunity to develop health tourism and invest in specific projects.
Sperl hopes the title will encourage more people to settle in St. Lamprecht and help increase its population over the long term.
