The University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna will establish teaching sites at HBLA Elmberg and HLBLA St. Florian, two education institutions in Upper Austria, ORF reported. The move aims to strengthen veterinary education and care in rural areas.
Rector Matthias Gauly said the sites would expand modern training opportunities. Students will be able to work on clinical questions directly with animals and apply theoretical knowledge to practical cases. The locations will also create opportunities for applied research, further training and continuing education, he said.
Upper Austrian Governor Thomas Stelzer said the decision would strengthen links between science and agricultural practice and help train more veterinarians in the regions where they are needed.
Agriculture Councillor Michaela Langer-Weninger said the sites would support reliable veterinary care, particularly for ruminants, pigs and poultry. Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig also described the move as an important step towards connecting veterinary education with farming.
