18-year-old drives at more than 100 km/h during police chase

An 18-year-old led police on a high-speed chase in Aspach, in the Braunau district, on Tuesday, driving at more than 100 km/h in a 30 km/h zone, ORF reported.

Police said officers spotted the car at about 3 p.m. and signalled for the driver to stop using blue lights, a siren and other lights. He accelerated and fled via Pimberg towards Höhnhart, also in the Braunau district.

The chase ended after about 10 kilometres at a dead end in Höhnhart. The driver got out and ran through several gardens before officers caught him in the garden of a house. He was temporarily arrested, but police lifted the arrest after completing their inquiries.

The 18-year-old had no driving licence and the car was not registered. A drug test was positive. He is to be reported to the Ried public prosecutor’s office on suspicion of endangering physical safety, using a vehicle without authorisation and offences under the Narcotic Substances Act. Further reports will be made to the Braunau district authority.
