Forestry worker seriously injured in 10-metre fall

A 60-year-old Austrian Federal Forests employee was seriously injured after falling over a 10-metre cliff while working in Molln, in the Kirchdorf district, ORF reported.

The man was searching for trees infested by bark beetles on Schwarzberg on Tuesday afternoon when he apparently failed to see the cliff in the dense forest and fell. Despite being barely able to move, he managed to call emergency services himself.

Because the forest was too dense for a cable rescue, Molln mountain rescuers carried him about 200 metres to a clearing. An emergency helicopter crew treated him there before flying him to Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Hospital in Steyr.
