Greenpeace flags suspected asbestos at 22 schools and kindergartens

Greenpeace has reported suspected asbestos at 22 areas outside schools and kindergartens, ORF reports. The sites include gravel, road verges, boundary stones, decorative stones, asphalt surfaces and stone walls.

Nineteen of the affected school locations are in Burgenland, two are in Styria and one is in Lower Austria. Greenpeace said these remain suspected cases.

Residents took samples at two locations, and both tested positive for asbestos, according to the environmental organisation.

Greenpeace is calling for the material to be removed and for the sites to be appropriately renovated.

ORF Burgenland plans to hold a discussion on asbestos on September 30 as part of the programme Ein Ort am Wort in Großpetersdorf.
