Algerian man faces attempted murder trial over Salzburg knife attack

An Algerian man went on trial for alleged attempted murder at Salzburg Regional Court on Tuesday, ORF reported. He is accused of stabbing a 30-year-old German man six times at Südtiroler Platz, the forecourt of Salzburg’s main railway station.

The alleged attack happened in December 2025 after an argument between the accused and another man. Several men, including the German national, reportedly tried to separate them. Prosecutors allege that the 28-year-old Algerian then attacked the German with a folding knife.

The indictment alleges that he delivered three forceful stabs to the victim’s leg and three more to his head. The man suffered stab and cut injuries to his upper and lower leg, as well as a three-centimetre cut to his left temple.

Witnesses and surveillance footage are said to implicate the accused. Investigators also found his DNA on the alleged weapon. He is represented by lawyer Stefan Rieder of White Ring.
