Police investigate death threat against Charlotte Knobloch in Munich

BR reported that Munich police are investigating a death threat against Charlotte Knobloch, chairwoman of the Jewish community of Munich and Upper Bavaria, left on a bench and a rubbish bin in the Englischer Garten park.

The police state security unit is investigating suspected threats and criminal damage. A witness found the writing, made with a waterproof marker, in the southeastern part of the park on Wednesday afternoon and alerted police.

According to a police spokesperson, the message read: “The AfD has won. Tomorrow we will hang Knobloch.” Police said it apparently referred to the AfD’s victory in Sunday’s state election in Saxony-Anhalt.

Police said there was currently no indication of a specific threat to Knobloch. They are seeking witnesses who observed anything suspicious in the southern part of the Englischer Garten that could be connected to the incident.

According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Knobloch cancelled her planned appearance at a book presentation at the Fat Cat cultural centre in the former Gasteig at short notice. Journalist Ronen Steinke presented his new book there on Thursday evening.
