Two seriously injured in B311 crash near Weißbach

Two people were seriously injured when a car and a motorcycle collided on the B311 road near Weißbach in the Pinzgau region, ORF reported. The crash happened during a turning manoeuvre and an attempted overtaking manoeuvre.

The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon in Weißbach, in the direction of Lofer. Police said a 63-year-old local man was driving towards Lofer, with a 24-year-old motorcyclist from Germany and his 24-year-old female passenger travelling behind him.

Shortly before Weißbach, the car driver slowed down to turn left into a gravel access road. At the same time, the motorcyclist began overtaking. The motorcycle struck the front left side of the car, throwing both riders into a roadside ditch.

The two German nationals suffered injuries, some of them serious, and were flown to hospital by rescue helicopter. A breath test on the car driver recorded 0.6 per mille. Police could not test the motorcycle rider because of his injuries.

Police, emergency services and 25 firefighters from Saalfelden, Weißbach and St Martin bei Lofer attended the scene. The B311 was completely closed for more than two hours while the crash site was cleared.
