Three Munich police officers injured in attack by 42-year-old

Three police officers were injured during an operation in Munich on Thursday morning after a 42-year-old man allegedly attacked them, BR reported. The man is being investigated on suspicion of assault and resisting officers carrying out their duties. He was taken to a psychiatric hospital.

Police said the man was on the street shirtless at around 3:30 a.m. because of his unusual behaviour. A local resident alerted the police.

When a patrol arrived, the man allegedly suddenly opened the driver’s door of the police car and tried to pull the baton from an officer’s duty belt. He also allegedly threatened the officer verbally.

The officer used pepper spray, but it had no effect. The man held his hand in front of the spray and redirected it towards the officer, hitting him instead.

Two female officers got out of the vehicle and pulled the man away from the driver’s door. He allegedly attacked one of them, knocked her to the ground and pressed his body against her. A police spokesperson said the man was very tall and heavy. The second officer eventually used her baton to prevent further attacks on her colleague.

The man could only be restrained and handcuffed with the help of seven additional officers called to the scene.

One male officer and two female officers were injured and were no longer fit for duty afterwards. The 42-year-old also suffered minor injuries. Police said he is a German national who lives in Munich.
