Munich, vandalism, wind power

Unknown vandals sprayed political slogans on dozens of concrete components for a wind farm project in the Forstenrieder Park near Munich over the weekend, BR24 reported. Police are investigating whether the damage is linked to recent sabotage attacks and are seeking witnesses.

A construction company employee discovered the graffiti on Monday morning. The components, which were lying on the ground, were covered with slogans opposing the wind farm project, including “Stop the wind turbine mafia” and “Your plunder makes us sick.”

Police said the components could only be cleaned at considerable expense and that some might have to be replaced. The damage is estimated at a mid six figure sum.

Investigators from the criminal police unit responsible for politically motivated left wing crime have taken over the case. Extensive evidence gathering was carried out at the scene.

A police spokesperson said officers were examining a possible connection with the current wave of sabotage attacks across Germany, but provided no further details for now.

Anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the Forstenrieder Park between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning is asked to contact police.
