Superbloom’s Olympic Park relaunch wins over festival crowd

Superbloom has overcome its biggest challenge since launching in 2022, with tens of thousands of people attending the pop festival despite the closure of Munich’s Olympic Stadium for renovation, BR reported. After two Experience Days at the weekend, organisers and visitors gave the redesigned event a positive assessment.

For the first time, the festival used areas throughout the Olympic Park rather than the stadium. Construction fences and cranes replaced the stadium as the central backdrop, while the main stage moved to Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz and other stages were positioned around the Olympic Lake.

The new layout created shorter routes and made many parts of the festival feel more open and easier to navigate. There were few bottlenecks, although some visitors missed the distinctive setting provided by the Olympic Stadium in previous years.

The music programme remained the festival’s main draw. Nico Santos, SDP, Zartmann, Berq and Ikkimel attracted large crowds, while Zartmann reinforced his status as one of Germany’s most sought-after pop acts. Berlin band SDP used an elaborate stage show, pyrotechnics and numerous hits to demonstrate why it has remained a reliable festival headliner.

Smaller areas also drew fans to newcomers including Jolle and Magda. The festival’s mix of pop, indie, hip-hop and electronic music remained one of its defining features.

Superbloom also offered workshops, talks, interactive activities and experience areas alongside the concerts. Visitors took part in programmes on sustainability, mental health and new technologies, while others relaxed in lounge areas beside the Olympic Lake. The closer layout meant these areas were used more visibly than in previous years.

The festival was not without difficulties. Performances by Ayliva, Paul Kalkbrenner and other artists had been cancelled weeks before the event, disappointing some fans. Attendance was also weaker on Saturday, when the organisers expected about 10,000 visitors. The site was less crowded at times than in previous years, while Sunday brought the usual festival density in front of the main stages.

For the first time, Superbloom is divided into the Saturday and Sunday Experience Days and three additional concert evenings from Monday to Wednesday. The weekday events feature two or three artists each.

Whether the festival can operate without the Olympic Stadium in the long term remains to be seen. The 2026 weekend showed that it can still attract its audience despite construction work, cancelled performances and a completely redesigned layout.
