Feldbach, road crash, Styria

Two drivers were seriously injured in a head-on collision on Saturday afternoon in Leitersdorf near Feldbach, ORF reported. A 72-year-old man from southeastern Styria crossed into oncoming traffic for reasons that remain unclear.

The man was driving on the B57 road from Fehring towards Feldbach at about 2.50 p.m. when he crossed into the opposite lane on a right-hand bend. His car then collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old woman.

The woman, who was also from the district of Southeast Styria, was trapped in her car and had to be freed by firefighters. The 72-year-old was able to leave his wrecked vehicle unaided. Both drivers were travelling alone.

After receiving initial treatment, both were taken to Feldbach Hospital, where they were admitted as inpatients.

The B57 was closed at the crash scene until about 4.30 p.m. while emergency services worked, and a local diversion was put in place. Forty-two firefighters from Feldbach, Fehring and Leitersdorf attended, along with two ambulances and an emergency doctor. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
