Two people were injured in a crash on the Walgau motorway in Vorarlberg, ORF reported. The passenger suffered serious injuries after the car hit a concrete barrier. Police said the 44-year-old driver was intoxicated at the time.

The crash happened at about 10.25 p.m. in the direction of Bludenz. The car entered the hard shoulder near a roadworks site and collided with a concrete barrier that began there.

The force of the impact drove the barrier through the entire vehicle on the right-hand side. The passenger was seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital after receiving initial treatment from an emergency doctor. The driver suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.

A breathalyser test on the driver was positive. Police temporarily confiscated his driving licence. The car was written off, and the driver will be reported to the Feldkirch public prosecutor’s office and the responsible district authority.
