Police stop two speeding drivers on Tyrol’s Zillertal road

Police stopped two drivers travelling at more than 150 km/h on the Zillertal road in Schlitters on Wednesday evening, ORF reported. Both had overtaken despite restrictions, and their driving licences were confiscated.

A 52-year-old Austrian was observed at 8.15pm by an unmarked police patrol overtaking a line of vehicles across a solid line and despite oncoming traffic. In a 100 km/h zone, he was measured at 154 km/h. In Fügen, he was later recorded travelling at 133 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

At 9.30pm, a 17-year-old Austrian who had held a provisional driving licence for only one month overtook several vehicles despite an overtaking ban, endangering oncoming traffic. In Fügen, he was recorded travelling at 152 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

Police confiscated the teenager’s licence and seized his car.
